The Facelift Procedure

A facelift is an elective, cosmetic surgical operation in which the loose muscles of the face and neck are tightened , the skin redraped and the excess trimmed.    Except in thin patients, the neck is usually liposuctioned as well.   Additionally, ancillary procedures such as a midface lift, tear trough microfat grafting, eyelid surgery, a brow lift, skin resurfacing, or a chin implant may be done at the same sitting.     These additional procedures may be recommended by your surgeon in order to optimize your final result.

A  face or neck lift operation by ieself takes Dr. Bunkis approximately two and a half hours to perform.   More time will be required if additional procedures are requested or if you have an exceedingly full neck.      For your comfort and safety, Dr. Bunkis performs such procedures under a light general anesthesia or deep sedation, always with a qualified, board certified anesthesiologist present to administer the medications and to monitor all patients to ensure their safety.

We prefer that facelift patients spend the first night with a registered nurse.   The nurse will care for you at a local hotel or, if you live nearby and have a quiet, comfortable environment, at your home.    In the morning, your nurse will bring you in to the office where your family or other designated adult will pick you up and home care instructions will be reviewed.
